Getting Lost in the Experience

Last week was a special, much-anticipated week for me and my family. We flew out to Colorado and went snow skiing (one of my favorite things in the world)!

For me, snow skiing really checks all the boxes when it comes to a great vacation:

  • Nature 🌲

  • Fresh Air ☀️

  • Physical Activity 🎿

  • Family time 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Magic

There's something truly magical about gliding down those slopes, taking in the fresh mountain air, and enjoying the expansive, beautiful scenery that surrounds you.

But you know what I find equally magical?

Occasionally detouring from the main ski run... to a quiet tree trail. Where the snow isn't groomed. Where fewer have traveled. Where you're not quite sure what to expect. Where a slower pace is required.

There are some interesting bumps, twists, and turns in the tree trails. But the powdery snow cushions you. And it mutes the noise.

That peacefulness and quiet within the tree trails... It's really something.

Finding Our Own “Tree Trails”

I think it's important that we look for "tree trails" in our own lives -- opportunities to detour from the main path from time to time, getting lost in the experience. For example, getting lost in:

  • A good book

  • A creative pursuit

  • A different surrounding

  • A new activity

A Different Kind of Productivity

Sometimes we view these activities as "not productive enough." Yet these are the very activities that renew our spirit and help us approach life with energy and enthusiasm.
