Are you ready to embrace a healthier way of life? I'd love to help! This website is dedicated to offering useful information and encouragement for your journey to better health.
Picture of Health
I love the picture above. To me, it conveys an idealistic image of healthy living. I imagine the lady above woke up feeling well-rested and refreshed. She enjoyed a great workout, where she felt strong and fit. Afterward she got ready for the day in her casual yet classy clothes (neatly folded or hung in her perfectly-organized closet, of course). She went about her highly-productive day of meaningful and satisfying work. And now she is leisurely preparing a nutritious dinner. Her harmonious family will all sit around the table together, enjoying her delectable meal and each others' company. Afterward her husband will say, "Honey, you go relax while I do the dishes."
If only the journey of great health could be so effortless and flawless... (A girl can dream, right?)
What I Can't Do
I cannot promise you flawlessness, youth, an athletic body, an organized home, culinary abilities, a harmonious family, or a spouse who eagerly volunteers for household chores (sorry).
As we all know, life is not perfect. Life gets messy. Why should our health journey look any different? There are times when we are taking care of ourselves, running on all cylinders, feeling good, seeing results. And then there are times when we lack maintenance, become overwhelmed, ignore our "check engine" light, break down, and find ourselves lost without a map.
It's easy to make good health choices when you're feeling good, are motivated, and have the time. It's not so easy when "life happens," things get crazy and hectic, and you're just trying to keep your head above water. This is when our health often gets pushed to the back burner. Yet this is when we need to rely on our health the most.
What I CAN Do
My goal is to encourage a lifelong mindset of making your health a priority. As Stephen Covey wrote, "The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities."
We all know that good health is important. Yet making time to focus on your health may seem like a luxury. It's simply not as urgent as the work deadlines, school activities, unfinished household chores, etc. So we focus on these urgent matters, telling ourselves that one of these days we'll start taking better care of ourselves. And our health remains on the back burner, quietly neglected... until it becomes an urgent and serious issue.
How do I know? I have worked as an ER/hospital physician assistant for nearly a decade. I see, on a daily basis, the kinds of things that happen when we don't make our health a priority - the variety of health conditions that destroy patients' quality of life. Some of these conditions are unavoidable, but many are completely avoidable and can be significantly improved through lifestyle changes.
My intent is not to try to scare you into better health. This site is not simply about avoiding illness and living longer. It's about adding LIFE to the years you live!
Regardless of where you are in your health journey, right now is the time to take the wheel. You are in the driver's seat. "It's your road and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you." -Rumi
I hope this site can be a useful resource to help keep you on the path of good health. There are no "one size fits all" health plans. It's important that you find what works for you. My goal is simply to support you in that process.
Where to Begin
1. SIGN UP for weekly posts by email.
2. At your convenience, browse through blog posts for topics that you find interesting and/or relevant to your situation.
3. Throw any perfectionist tendencies out the window! (Doesn't that feel good?!) Try to avoid an all-or-nothing mentality. Instead, focus on improving your ratio of good choices over the long haul.
4. Enjoy the journey! Remember that having the right outlook can make all the difference.
Rooting For You!
As you know, the path to good health is not always fun, not always easy. Yet those challenging stretches often lead to the most beautiful sceneries to enjoy. Having the right support can help during the tough times and improve your chances of success.
Wishing you health, happiness, and inspiring scenery along the way!
